Shakespeare's Globe Education Program: Courses

Audience, Architecture and Action at Shakespeare’s Globe (3 credits)
The syllabus will be informed by, and respond to, the plays in repertory for the Globe Theatre season. The course seeks to demonstrate the historical and current value of Shakespeare’s plays through a practical examination of text and language, performance space, the materials of theater practice, and the unique relationship between actors and audience at the Globe.

Students will have the chance to study intensively with Courses Faculty and Theater Practitioners (including actors, directors, voice, text and movement specialists, designers and musicians) in order to develop an understanding of the ways in which the plays have been conceived and presented, both then and now.

The course will include a range of lectures, seminars, performances, practical workshops and scene rehearsals. By the end of the summer course, it is hoped that students will have attained a new appreciation of theatrical processes, the performativity of Globe audiences, and have developed their own understanding of Shakespearean drama through performance
